Case Study: Fixing Sticky Header & Mobile UX Issues on a Live WordPress Site
Not every WordPress project is a full build — a lot of valuable work is precise, scoped fixes on an existing live site. This project, sourced through Upwork, is a good example of what that looks like end-to-end.
The Brief
The client came in with a specific, well-documented request: three mobile UX issues on their WordPress/Elementor site, including a sticky header that wasn't behaving correctly on mobile devices. They provided a written breakdown outlining exactly what needed to change — which made the project far smoother than a vague 'fix my site' request.
Why Scoped Requests Work Better
A tightly scoped brief like this one benefits both sides:
- The client gets an accurate estimate instead of an open-ended one
- I can flag conflicts or edge cases before starting, not mid-project
- There's a clear definition of 'done'
The Fix
The sticky header issue traced back to CSS conflicts between the theme's default header behavior and custom styling that had been added over time — a common pattern on Elementor sites that have been modified by multiple people. The fix involved isolating the sticky behavior into scoped custom CSS rather than fighting the theme's defaults, plus adjustments to touch targets and spacing for the two other mobile UX issues flagged in the brief.
The Outcome
The project was delivered within the agreed scope and timeline. The client's review on Upwork noted fast, efficient, courteous delivery, and said they'd use me again for future WordPress work — which they since have.
The Broader Lesson
